The Self Tanner I Love

I’ve never been one to use self-tanner. After the experience that left me looking like a Dorito in 9th grade, I  swore I’d never used it again. It also STUNKKK. But, then I moved to Utah and didn’t see the sun for 7 months out of the year and knew something had to give (now in NYC, but still wondering if I’ll ever see the sun again LOL). I discovered Chocolate Sun and decided to give it a try. I’ve had my eye on it for a while, and they were kind enough to send me the product. This was perfect timing because– 1. My lighter shade of foundation is out of stock, so I really needed to darken my skin without looking orange. 2. I’ve always wanted to give it another chance. 3. It makes me look less pale in photos for IG hehe.

@TheChocolateSun is all organic, sunless tanning and…yes it smells like chocolate. I used it last night and woke up in the middle of the night thinking that I could smell the neighbors making waffles, only to discover it was ME. When the smell wears off, it smells a little rusty (weird, I know), but honestly…this is the best self-tanner I’ve ever used. I was hesitant at first, because organic doesn’t always work as well, but this truly is a game changer. I also thought it was cool that they’ve been featured in a lot of magazines, Allure’s “Best of Beauty”, and partner with makeup artists in Hollywood…like cast members of Grey’s Anatomy and Wonder Woman. So yep…after hearing all this I had to try!

The self tanner for Chocolate Sun comes in 3 shades! I have olive-yellowish skin, so opted for shade 2. It is gentle enough to use on your face, too (but they also make one specifically for the face!).

Here how to apply self -tanner:

  1. Shave and either dry-brush or exfoliate (I use a mitt + scrub) the day BEFORE using self-tanner. This preps the skin and makes sure the self-tanner doesn’t cling to any dry spots. It also prevents streaking.
  2. Apply the self-tanner at night. Make sure to overlap areas, making sure you’re applying it evenly- especially around your feet/ankles. A lot of times I skip dry areas like my elbows and toes. See a pic at the very bottom (right) to see what happens when you put self tanner on dry patches– no beano!
  3. WASH those hands! Like scrub, scrub, scrub and get between each finger. This tanner won’t make your hands orange if you wash properly. I posted the pic on the bottom left to show you.
  4. Wait a good 8-10 hours before showering.

Do not use a white towel in the AM as some of the self tanner will get on the towel when you dry off.
